The above photo has special meaning as it was taken by Kathryn's Mother 2 months before she past away

*** "We are absolutely, positively, passionate about the world we live in and we use our cameras to capture all the big and small moments we encounter." ***

Kathryn Parent and Dave Paddick are a husband and wife team, life partners and soul mates. Together they publish their fine art photographs under one name, ‘Photography by Phos³’ (which is an interesting story in itself). Their home base is Chatham, Ontario, Canada.

The duo are self taught photographers. They are known Internationally and have sold and exhibited their photography globally, won a plethora of photo contests.

Together their extreme weather photography is admired in the weather community around the world. In 2017 by special request, they participated in the international (National Weather Service/Environment Canada) NWS/EC Lighting Validation Research Project for the newly launched at that time, GOES 16 Satellite called “Lightning Mapper Program”. ‘Combining art and science!’

Kathryn’s Photograph “Elli Cloud” won the 1st place for the prestigious “Weather Photographer Of the Year 2018” with the Royal Meterological Society, AccuWeather and Royal Photographic Society Peoples Choice Award and published in their national magazines.

Dave’s Photograph “Threatening Skies AKA Let the Spin Begin” was one of 100 selected of 16,000+ submissions, to dawn the pages of Canadian Geographic/The Weather Network Special Limited Edition “Wicked Weather” Magazine 2014, Dave’s Photograph “Threatening Skies AKA Let the Spin Begin” was also chosen to be the front cover for the 2015-16 Canadian Geographic/The Weather Network Special Limited Edition “Wicked Weather” Calendar.

Articles of the pair, have been published in local news publications, such as Chatham Daily News, Wallaceburg’s Sydenham Current, Leamington’s Southpoint Sun, Amherstburg’s River Town Times. For the past 6 years they have been asked to be Jurors for the Leamington Arts Centre Amateur Photographer of the year.

When not on a shoot you will often find them storm chasing and storm spotting for EC - CANWARN Trained or NWS -SKYWARN Trained in the States or driving down country roads photographing abandon houses and whatever else catches their eyes along the way.

Their name Phos³ is a story unto itself…

Phos³ - Where did this name come from? Well after a great deal of thought it was decided that they wanted something unique without using their names as many photographers do. Yet when they want to take credit of a photo they can put their individual names on it.

Phos - Is Greek for light. Phos is pronounced Foss as in Boss

³ Superscript - is multi-dimensional - It is perfect balance, aesthetics, tripod, rule of thirds, a funnel for energy, 3 dimensions, the 3 elements (earth, wind and fire), black/white and colour, 3 components of water H₂O, and Light ∙ Vision ∙ Emotion The number 3 is a power number (Google it ☺️)

Speaking of Light ∙ Vision ∙ Emotion, here is a brief description of how these 3 tag words came to be. There must be light in order to see. Photography is about capturing light and manipulating light. A Photograph cannot be taken without light. The vision is the composition of the frame. It’s the artist’s eye and how we perceive what we are seeing. And last but not least, Emotion - You will hear them say, “hopefully if we have done our job right, using light to capture the vision that we see, it will stimulate some sort of an emotion within you, letting you feel the story. We shoot to thrill” This deep thought process flows into the way they make all their photographs.
